Press release -

Trainor raises the bar of Ex competence - Approved International Certifying Body by IECEx.

Trainor is proud to announce that we have been accepted as a Certification Body within the IECEx scheme for certification of personnel competence for explosive atmospheres (IECEx CoPC). Trainor Certification will initially focus their efforts to serve the international Ex industries to the markets in Norway, Vietnam and Korea.

For more than 30 years, we have been heavily committed to ensuring that our customers receive satisfactory competence within Ex. It has always been a great challenge to quality assure this competence in accordance with regulations and standards, but now we have finally got a system that manages this satisfactorily, says Geir Larsen, sales manager in Trainor.

The IECEx System is one of the International Electro technical Commission’s conformity assessment systems, which objective is to facilitate international trade in equipment and services used in explosive atmospheres. IECEx is endorsed by the United Nations as the internationally recognized certification system for explosive areas. The IECEx CoPC provides assurance that the certified persons has had their knowledge and competence independently verified.

The consequences of an accident in an Ex-area can be devastating for the personnel working there, for the community, and for the environment.” says Einar Thorén, Managing Director at Trainor Elsikkerhet AS. “Competent personnel is one key factor, not only for the safety, but also for cost efficiency. Trainor has a strong commitment to the IECEx System. There is no doubt that IECEx is the way forward for the global Ex industry.

Equipment for use in potentially explosive areas are covered by a wide range of IEC-standards and are generally highly regulated. As an IECEx Certification Body, Trainor Certification will assess and certify the competence of personnel working with design, selection, installation, inspection and maintenance of such equipment.

The use of certified equipment in Ex-areas has for obvious reasons been mandatory for many years. We see an increasing awareness in the industry for the use of certified personnel as well.” Says Henrik Eklund, Operations Manager of Trainor Certification. “We believe that Trainor’s long experience from developing the industry professional’s competencies can bring many benefits to the continued improvement and expansion of the IECEx System. We are looking forward to supporting existing and new clients with the assessment and certification of their personnel’s competence.” Eklund continues.

Trainor Certification will operate separated from Trainor’s training business, as an own department. Assessments for the IECEx CoPC units Ex 000, 001, 003, 004, 006, 007, 008 and 009 can be offered at Trainor’s assessment centers in Norway, Vietnam and Korea, or at the client’s site through a mobile assessment lab.

Personnel fulfilling all requirements will be awarded an IECEx CoPC, valid internationally for five years.
